Lydia and I simply cannot afford a $20 trip to the local theater, yet we often patron the dollar theater every once in awhile after Lydia gets off of work. One of our good friends Josh Hurst, a movie critic with Christianity Today, flew to LA for the premier of Dan in Real Life starring Steve Carrell. He gave the film positive reviews so Lydia and I decided to watch it as well and were positively delighted (though we have to add the traditional Christian disclaimer "Great film...except for one scene"). Amazing acting and it painted a terrific picture of many families in America.
Below is the trailer. We encourage you to check it out at your local dollar theater or rent it on DVD.

Glad you all liked the film! (Was the one scene you mention the one in the shower? If so, I thought it was filmed in such a way as to be tasteful rather than titilating, but yes, it is the one thing that might give me pause about recommending the film to families.)
The most common criticism of the film seems to be the fact that the family is portrayed in such a positive light as to be simply unbelievable-- which I find to be unspeakably sad, especially since, in talking with the filmmakers, I learned that almost everything about the family is taken from real life.
